Celebrating Our Unsung Hero: Chris Dyer

Elmbridge u3a is delighted to announce that the Unsung Heroes Award for 2026 has been presented to Chris Dyer, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the smooth running of our organisation.
Many members may not realise just how much happens behind the scenes to keep Elmbridge u3a functioning efficiently. From managing systems and resolving technical issues to ensuring our monthly talks run seamlessly, Chris has quietly become an essential part of our operations.
Chris leads the technical team responsible for ensuring that our software and systems meet our needs and continue to reliably. This includes overseeing Beacon system, which supports membership management and communications, as well as maintaining our Dropbox data repository and helping to manage email accounts and technical communications with members.
When members encounter technical issues, whether receiving communications, accessing information, or navigating our systems, Chris is often the person working patiently behind the scenes to resolve problems.
He also manages the sound and vision systems for our monthly talks. Thanks to his careful preparation, speakers can focus on their presentations and members can enjoy high-quality sound and visuals. When everything works perfectly, it often goes unnoticed which is precisely why this award is so well deserved.
Chris’s contribution exemplifies the spirit of Elmbridge u3a. He gives generously of his time, shares his expertise willingly, and approaches every challenge with patience, professionalism and good humour. His work supports not just one activity, but the entire organisation and all our members.
Congratulations, Chris, and thank you for being one of Elmbridge u3a’s true unsung heroes.
