Sezincote House & Gardens
Pronounced ‘Seezincote’, a unique 200 year old, privately owned mansion built in the ‘Indian Style’. Sezincote is set in the Cotswolds, surrounded by a thriving agricultural estate including a wonderful garden, designed with the help of Humphrey Repton. Sezincote is credited with influencing the design of the Brighton Pavilion after a visit by The Prince Regent in 1807. The house was hugely restored after the 2nd world war, and it is thought that it is the only Mogul building still surviving in Western Europe.
Before we arrive there, we shall stop at Moreton- in- Marsh for free time to buy lunch.
We then have a short drive to Sezincote, where we spend the afternoon at the estate. There are timed group entries for a half hour guided tour inside the house, with the rest of the time free to enjoy the magnificent gardens, waterfalls and grottos. There is a small cafe in the Orangery serving tea, coffee and cake, accessed by a flight of 11 steps.
There are stairs inside the house; for those that can’t manage them there is a book with photos to look at showing the upstairs rooms. Outside it can also be uneven underfoot. The garden is on a slope with mainly gravel paths which are steep in places, with irregular stone bridges over the stream. There are seats in the gardens.
Cost: £37 inc. house & gardens entrance, tip for driver. Food/drinks not included.
If you have a membership card for Historic Houses, the cost will be £22.
