Memoir Writing and Self Publishing Workshop

In association with The Elmbridge Literary Festival

Tickets: £10 (includes workbook to take away). Ticketsource

An autobiography is the biography of oneself narrated by oneself. Autobiographical works can take many forms, from the intimate writings made during life that were not necessarily intended for publication (including letters, diaries, journals, memoirs, poetry and reminiscences) to a formal book-length autobiography.

Sue Heightman and Christina Preston are offering a 90 minute seminar, Writing Your Memoirs,  to people who would welcome encouragement to believe that their reflections are valuable to others, especially their family. We have both written and edited autobiographical books, articles and poetry and will share a variety of approaches to this writing journey and possible writing styles and formats. We will also share techniques for self-publishing. Those who join the group will be encouraged to talk about the kind of memoir they have in mind.

We will also be pleased to review any writing that you have already started after the session. If there is enough interest we will set up a workshop on this topic.

Christina Preston

Dr Christina Preston, retired Professor of Education Innovation, is a published poet and education journalist, who has written in a variety of genres as well as editing a professional journal, Advancing Education. Her first degree, Dramatic and Telecommunication Arts, introduced her to the many ways in which Digital Literacy could assist creative activity in the early days. Whilst still an English and Drama teacher, she  wrote two adventure games for schools in the UK and The Netherlands that put the pupils in the role of international  journalists researching the activities of a criminal billionaire. As a professor she travelled widely helping governments and charities to introduce Digital Literacy into schools and  founded the international MirandaNet Fellowship 1992 - 2024) where 2,000 Teacher Fellows, funded by edtech companies,  researched into the impact of technology and learning in classrooms. Christina has won six international awards for her contribution to education innovation and ‘e-community of practice’ research and development.
